A new day in a new park and a bay sandwich

We pretty much stayed close to home today, although I took a walk around the park this morning and collected license plate states. This afternoon we went to Walmart to pick up a cheap table as this is about the fourth park we have gone to that does not provide a picnic table.

The view from .5-miles from our park - Dickinson Bay
Because we were borrowing the park’s over-the-air antenna, we found a cheap one at Walmart and bought that antenna so I could return the one the park loaned us. The new one seems to be picking up additional stations, including CBS and ABC, so Grey’s Anatomy is still a possibility on Thursday night. Joan is happy.
The trip to Kroger to pick up Joan’s prescription medicines was only half successful. One was filled and ready, but the other ran into a snag when the company that controls all the prescriptions in the world, decided Joan could not get the other filled right now.

When we arrived back to the trailer, Joan called the drug company poohbas and they relented , although we have to pay out of pocket for the 30-day supply we will pick up tomorrow.
The neighborhood around the park is interesting as most of the homes are built off the ground as we are just ½-mile from both Dickinson Bay and Galveston Bay, which are very prone to hurricanes.  But what is more interesting is how one house will be a luxury home and the one next to is simply a dump.

It does not appear that zoning laws are a big deal where we are. To be fair some of the homes are stunningly beautiful.
As we drove through Houston yesterday and then around San Leon and League, Texas today we noticed that there doesn’t appear to be the same level of recession here as home. Well, duh, we are from Michigan and it doesn’t get much worse than there. But it is amazing to be in a place where building is going on and businesses seem to be packed to overflowing..
Galveston Bay - 1.1-miles from our park

So Texas must be doing something right.
There is at least one good thing about this park over the last one: Quiet. No sirens, trains, helicopters flying over all night and so far, no bodies found in the neighborhood.

As for the bathrooms and showers, the water is hot and they are relatively clean, but for sure we are not at Traveler’s World anymore.  Really, would a small purchase of a toilet paper holder break the bank? Joan was happy that the showers had two hooks, so that was good.
My early morning walk around the park, which is less than half the size of Traveler’s World as far as RV sites go still had a pretty good representation of states on this our first full day here.

States in the park, so far are: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. A couple Canadian Provinces, Ontario and New Brunswick are also represented.
After dinner, which was delicious spaghetti (aside: I think Joan may have been influenced by my story about my favorite dinner that I wrote in a recent blog post about getting to choose my favorite dinner on my birthday). I should note here that in addition to spaghetti I really, really love a good T-bone and always felt a really warm feeling for anyone in my family kind enough to cook one for me. (We’ll see if that works again).

With the dishes done and the temperatures warm outside, I made yet another lap around the park with Joan who wanted to get out for a little walk.
