A lazy fall day and a trip on the lakeshore

We woke up to nature’s fireworks in the middle of the night with thunderstorms rolling through Ludington. The rain was heavy enough that it sounded for a time that we were sleeping in a tin can, but that didn’t even keep me away after a travel day.

I got up late (8 a.m.) and the rain was still lightly falling outside. Watched a little news and played on the computer. About noon Joan and I attempted our daily walk around the park only to have that interrupted with a steady, cold rain. We beat feet for the trailer and waited out the rest of the storm.

The showers here are nice so we cleaned up and headed to Walmart to pick up some needed supplies and food about 2:30 p.m. After putting the supplies back in the trailer we headed downtown to Ludington to mail a letter and see what is there.

The downtown was quiet, as you would expect during the off season so we decided to head out to the State Park and check it out. With only a short time left in the afternoon we decided not to spend the entrance fee until we had more time to explore.

We did stop along the shoreline so I could snap a few photos for the blog. At the City Park on the lakeshore we found a city crew trying to reclaim the sidewalks and parking lot from the drifting sand. It appears that the same equipment that will be used to remove snow comes in handy for moving the sand.

We tried to venture out on a breakwater to a harbor entrance lighthouse, but the high winds and waves made that not just uncomfortable, but treacherous. We decided to wait for that walk until a calmer day. It was interesting to see how the sand has so quickly moved in on the park and nearby roadways.

A nice skate park near the shoreline is currently unusable because it is partially filled with sand. I have started reading my next book in the Master and Commander series “The Mauritius Command.” It is No. 4 in the series of 21 books.

Joan made us grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner and we finished up some Walmart chicken from home. We’re going to watch a Netflix movie tonight (not sure which one yet) and just enjoy being away. Today the temperatures outside were in the 50s, but we never had to turn on the heater as the trailer stayed at a comfortable temperature all day.

Any of our Michigan friends with a Ludington restaurant suggestion?
