The drought busters are at it again (and a hike)

Just an interesting photo I took along the trail
Last year we arrived in Texas in the middle of an historic drought. By the time we left, the drought was history and we were waterlogged. This year, Texas is having unusual high temps and little or no rain and the drought is back.

At the time we showed up in Tucson they were in the middle of a record-breaking cold and a pretty persistent drought as well. The record-breaking cold went away (at least for a day or two) but we had a record setting rainfall last week and they are predicting more rain for this weekend.
On the news tonight the weather forecaster said it appears by the end of the month that rainfall amounts should be back to normal here in Arizona.

Look hard you'll see a little water in this photo
Well, you’re welcome. As I’ve said before, your state needs rain, call the Smiths, the drought-busters.
Today was “Easy Hike” day here at the park. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the place that I hiked but most of the hike took place in a “wash.” The total distance was a little over five miles, but there was only a couple up and down sections so relatively easy.

We ate lunch on a river bank which was fun.
We had about 15 hikers and it is always a good time to meet and talk with new folks on these hikes. One lady did a face plant, but got back up and continued the hike like a good trooper.

Heading home
After I arrived home I went and got cleaned up and then set up our chairs outside on the patio and dove into my next Patrick O’Brian novel “The Far Side of the World” one of a series of 21 books written by O’Brian on the Royal Navy.
Joan came out and joined me after she completed some paperwork inside the trailer and we had a nice talk with a woman from Wisconsin. As I’ve said before, folks down here are very friendly.

We continued the effort to clean out the leftovers in the frig tonight and then settled in for a quiet night at home.
There are more photos of today’s hike in the next post.
